DIOCESE OF DAMATURU

CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)

C/o All Saints’ Cathedral,
New Jerusalem,
P.O.Box 312,
Damaturu,
Yobe State.
5th November, 2005.

Dear Brethren,

LETTER OF APPEAL

We assumed office on the 30th of October, 2005. The vision the Lord has given us for this diocese is fourfold.

The first is aggressive evangelization of Yobe State with the planting of churches in every part of the State.
The second is mission based programmes like discipleship, provision of basic social amenities in rural and urban areas etc.
The third is pragmatic Youth Ministry in order to encourage the Youth to participate actively in the running of the diocese and to encourage many who left the fold to return to the communion.
In order to progressively achieve the above and sustain them, the fourth vision becomes very necessary; this is investment in Agriculture and Conference and Retreat Centre. This, by the grace of God will generate the needed fund to achieve the above vision.
However, for the immediate need of the diocese, particularly the need to evangelize the entire Yobe State, we need the following:

1)      A four-wheel drive that can carry eight (8) people. The only good road is between Potiskum and Damaturu. All the other roads to Nguru, Gashua, Geidam, Machina, Fika etc are very bad and deplorable.
2)      Film equipments. One of the best means of evangelizing the northern part of Nigeria is to show the ‘film on Jesus’ in Hausa Language.
3)      12 or 18 seater bus that can carry more people for rural evangelism.
4)      Peugeot 504 station wagon, to help in the Bishop’s long distance journeys around the country.
5)      A Diocesan office to accommodate the Bishop, his staff and the committees currently being established to run the diocese.

Please pray for all the priests who are going on church planting exercise from the 1st to the 12th of December, 2005 for successful missionary enterprise. Also pray for fund for regular payment of stipend to the new Evangelists that will be employed to man the churches that will be established, by the grace of God, as a result of our missionary outreaches. Remember also that Yobe State is a poor and Muslim dominated part of the country.
The Lord bless you richly as you participate in the evangelization of Yobe State, Nigeria so that in heaven we can together meet millions of people from this State.
Make cheques payable to the ‘Anglican Diocese of Damaturu’. Please state the purpose of the money at the back of the cheque. All cheques will be duly acknowledged.

Yours Sincerely in His Service,
Rt. Rev’d. & Mrs Abiodun Ogunyemi.

In the Bishop's inaugural sermon on the 30th of October,2005 he explained the main focus of the Diocese as long as he remains the Bishop of this Diocese, namely, 1. a consistent prayer life by all in the Diocese.2. aggressive evangelization of the whole of Yobe State and planting of new congregations.3. a pragmatic youth ministry(anglican churches are fast loosing their young ones, there is the urgent need to bring them back to the fold) 4. investment in viable and profitable ventures to generate fund for mission and evangelism.
